Voyage in the Andes 5 days

From Gavidea (3.300m) to Santa Maria de Canaguá (1.400m)

1 Day: Gavidia – Los Morritos (3300m – 6h)

Transfer along different Páramo villages to Gavidia (3300m), a rural area whose landscape is surrounded by beautiful mountains. In Gavidia (national park Sierra Nevada) we ascend to the highest point of this route: the Alto de Micarache at 3.640m. Mountain farmers and their mules come along with us. The descent today would be till los Morritos (3.300 m). Here we pitch our tents.

2 Day: Gavidia – El Carrizal (up to 1500m – 6h)

Voyage in the Paramo among bushes and frailejones (Espeletia: plants adapted to huge heights). In the rainy season (May to October) the frailejones blossom its beautiful yellow flowers. We descend from 1500m through forest where abundant bamboos and spanisch moss (Tillandsia usneoides) grow until the smalll village of Carrizal. Today we spend the night at the Mucuposada El Carrizal.

3 Day: El Carrizal – San José (up tp 1400m – 6h)

In the morning we enjoy an idyllic landscape of the surroundings. We continue descending among a gorgeous forest until our next accommodation. Today we spend the night at the Mucuposada San José.

4 Day: San José – Santa María de Canaguá (up tp 600m – 6h)

Voyage along traditional coffee plantations in the middle of Andean cloudforest, meadows and forests until Santa María de Canaguá, a small village conveniently situated at the base of the mountain chain of Mérida (Sierra Nevada). Overnight at Mucuposada los Samanes.

5 Day: Santa María de Canaguá – Transfer to Mérida

Walk to “Curbatí” river where we can enjoy of a refreshing bath. After it, transfer to Barinas, Mérida or Tabay.
